This research investigates the transformative role of digital technologies in enhancing the performance and democratic vitality of Panchayath Raj Institutions (PRIs) in rural India. With the implementation of national programs like Digital India and e-Panchayat, there has been a paradigm shift in how grassroots governance is conceptualized and executed. This paper critically examines the integration of digital tools in planning, service delivery, and administrative transparency at the local level. It identifies both the opportunities and systemic barriers to digital empowerment, highlighting key challenges such as digital literacy gaps, infrastructural limitations, and institutional resistance. Through a comprehensive review of policy initiatives, secondary data, and selected case studies, the study underscores the potential of digital governance in achieving inclusive and participatory rural development. Policy recommendations are provided to strengthen digital adoption and ensure equitable access to governance mechanisms.
