Abstract

Digital pathways such as, information and communication technologies (ICTs), internet connectivity, mobile platforms, and digital literacy initiatives—play a fundamental role in fostering rural transformation and empowerment. These pathways enable rural populations to access education, healthcare, governance, markets, and income-generating opportunities, thereby contributing to sustainable rural empowerment. However, inadequate infrastructure, low digital literacy, affordability, and socio-cultural challenges confine their effectiveness. This paper adopts a conceptual framework and secondary data analysis to examine the role of digital pathways in promoting sustainable rural empowerment. The study identifies key impacts and challenges and suggests strategies to augment inclusive and sustainable digital empowerment in rural areas.
