Ahilyabai Holkar (1725–1795), the celebrated ruler of the Malwa kingdom, is widely acknowledged for her administrative excellence and extensive temple reconstruction across India. However, her role in fostering academic enrichment and intellectual culture remains underexplored in mainstream historiography. This paper examines her contribution to the promotion of Sanskrit scholarship, institutional learning, manuscript preservation, and knowledge patronage during the eighteenth century. By situating her governance within the broader intellectual climate of early modern India, the study argues that Ahilyabai Holkar played a pivotal role in sustaining indigenous educational systems at a time of political transition. Her reign transformed Maheshwar into a vibrant center of intellectual activity, reinforcing the symbiotic relationship between statecraft and scholarship.
