Abstract

Green entrepreneurship means starting and running a business that reduces harm to the environment. The study, “Green Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Business Practices: Insights from Small Entrepreneurs”, try to understand the awareness, adoption, benefits, and challenges of green practices among small entrepreneurs in Kannur district. The data gathered from 75 small entrepreneurs through a structured questionnaire were analysed using percentage analysis, weighted mean, ranking method, one sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and independent samples t-test. It revealed that small entrepreneurs have good awareness of green entrepreneurship but they follow such practices to some extent only. Energy conservation is the most common form followed by them, while the use of renewable energy is not much common. The main benefits from such practices are better image and higher customer satisfaction. However, high costs, limited finance, and lack of technical knowledge are major challenges prevailing. The study also found that small entrepreneurs with greater awareness increases the use of green practices and have more benefits. It suggests that better awareness, financial support, technical assistance, and government initiatives can encourage more small entrepreneurs to use green business practices.
